A territory that has always been dedicated to olive growing
The olive groves of the "Le Prunaie" farm are located in Abruzzo, on the gentle hills of the municipality of Catignano, in the province of Pescara.
This area has always been suitable for olive cultivation due to its mild climate and the particular characteristics of its soil, which is ideal for the harmonious development of this plant.
Although the company was only established in 2003, it has already incorporated approximately 60 hectares of agricultural land dedicated, as tradition dictates, to the cultivation of olives, vines, and cereals.
The EVO "Le Prunaie" extra virgin olive oil has very low acidity due to modern harvesting practices and careful monitoring of olive health.
The richness of aromatic substances and the significant presence of antioxidants characteristic of the olive give "Le Prunaie" extra virgin olive oil harmonious and precious bitter and spicy notes.
The olive grove and product care
The company's olive production is now based on approximately 3000 olive trees.
The typical varieties of the area are: Dritta, Leccino, Frantoio, Cucco, Maurino, and Moraiolo, which give the oil unmistakable aromas.
Recently, other varieties have joined the previous ones to further diversify production.
The extra virgin olive oil from the "Le Prunaie" farm comes from the careful cultivation of olive trees, whose fruits, after being harvested from the tree at the right degree of ripeness, are milled within a few hours in the modern company oil mill with a continuous two-phase cycle. "Le Prunaie" extra virgin olive oil is exclusively obtained from the milling of only the olives produced on the farm.
The cultivation method for the olive groves is organic farming, without the use of synthetic fertilizers or insecticides, but by resorting only to natural principles allowed in organic farming.
High-density planting
In 2007/2008, an olive grove of approximately 12,000 sqm, known as super-intensive, was planted.
The current and productive grove was established following Spanish technical guidelines with narrow spacings (4 x 2 m) resulting in 1500 trees. The chosen varieties, which were the most suitable for this model at the time, are the Spanish varieties Arbequina and Arbosana, the famous Greek variety Koroneiki, and the Italian varieties FS17, Don Carlo, and Giulia.
This olive grove represents a valid and interesting example of innovation in the field, allowing for reduced cultivation costs while simultaneously achieving good productivity. The presence of varieties such as Koroneiki and Fs 17 also enhances the quality appreciation of the oils produced from this grove.
